Volunteer with Us
Did you know that Make-A-Wish offers countless types of volunteer opportunities, so anyone and everyone can use their unique talents to help grant the wishes of children battling critical illnesses? From volunteering at events to working closely with wish families, volunteers are at the heart of every wish – they bring strength and hope to wish kids when they need it most.
Current volunteer needs:
Wish granters
These volunteers work directly with wish kids and their families to help determine their wish, then they work closely with Make-A-Wish staff to make each wish come true. Being a wish granter allows you to be part of a wish kid's journey from start to finish. Since every child and family is different, wish granters undergo a specialized training program before meeting with a wish family.
Administrative volunteers
Just like every child is different, every wish is different. Make-A-Wish needs hands-on volunteers to enter data, make phone calls, and coordinate Make-A-Wish projects. It’s the work of administrative volunteers that makes the success of Make-A-Wish possible.
Event volunteers
Make-A-Wish North Texas relies primarily on fundraising and development to provide the resources necessary to fulfill the wishes of the children in our area. We have many events and fundraisers throughout the year, usually in the evenings or on weekends, that need volunteers who are willing to work a two-to-three-hour shift.
Translators
Because Make-A-Wish North Texas serves a large population of non-English speaking families, translator and interpreter volunteers are critical in facilitating wish experiences.
Kids For Wish Kids
Kids for Wish Kids is an exciting program that helps school-aged children understand the importance of philanthropy and community service while also benefiting a wish kid! Adult volunteers are needed to contact teachers and principals personally; from there, students and teachers will work together to organize fundraisers. Although the time commitment of this role is minimal, the rewards last a lifetime.
Wish Ambassadors are volunteers who enjoy and feel comfortable speaking to others, in a professional setting, about our history, mission, vision, volunteer roles, wish stories, and the volunteer opportunities our chapter has to offer. Specialized training is required.
Your Make-A-Wish Journey Starts Today!
To offer wish families the best experience possible, potential volunteers need to follow a few steps. First, it’s important to attend our Volunteer Information Session. To secure your spot, reach out to [email protected] and pre-register. After attending, complete our volunteer application and background check. If you hope to be a wish granter there is one additional step in the application process which is the specialized wish granter training.
An exciting new addition to our volunteer program is our in-person wish-granting sessions. These sessions allow volunteers to meet each other, learn all about the wish-granting process, set themselves up for success as a volunteer.
We host an in-person Wish Granting Training quarterly at our Addison, Texas, Headquarters and in our regions once a year.
Intern at Make-A-Wish
If being involved with Make-A-Wish excites you, consider interning with us. A variety of internships are offered in many different fields. Learn more about our internship program here.
We're thankful for our current volunteers and hope to see some new faces join the Make-A-Wish family soon!
