Name: Anna Haro

Job title: Volunteer Manager

Years at Make-A-Wish: 7 years

Work anniversary date: February 10th

What’s a typical day look like for you? I work on wish assignments: review wish sign ups on WishNet, make sure Wish Granters have current paperwork (BGC and COI) and then approve them to grant the wish! I am also overseeing the Wish Exchange Volunteer Program (currently, we have the MAW Alaska/Washington chapter helping is discover 44 wishes). I am also managing our Spring 2022 interns and getting ready for our summer interns!

Favorite part of your job: Bringing community members together to fulfill our mission! Connecting donors, volunteers, community members/groups to wishes brings me lots of joy! Also, our interns! I love providing a mentorship program that will help their future endeavors. Setting them up for success makes my day!

A memorable wish experience: Vivian V. (2017) My sister and I always grant wishes together and Vivian’s wish is one that I will always remember. We bonded with her and her family in a very special way. I saw them and sat together at Wish Night El Paso. Listening to Vivian talk about her future, school, friends, and career goals made me SO HAPPY. To see her thriving after going through a challenging health scenario makes wish granting so special and dear to my heart. Vivian had sent me a picture of her high school graduation and she will soon be sending a picture of her college graduation this coming May. I feel so honored to be part of her life and share these moments with her and her amazing family!

Hobbies:

  • Peloton rides! (Cody Rigsby and Tunde Oyeneyin are my favorite instructors)
  • Reading books about child development, women empowerment, feminist activists and friendship are my favorite topics! (Currently reading: Big Friendship How We Keep Each Other Close)
  • Podcasts (currently listening to: TheRobCast: Me, We, Everybody)

Something people might not know about you: I just started training for Disney’s Princess half marathon (in celebration of my best friend’s future cancer remission!!). Costume possibility: Mulan!
