Maddox's Star Wars Wish

On a typical Sunday, you’ll often catch Maddox indulging in his favorite meal of donuts and cheeseburgers while cheering on the Dallas Cowboys or Kansas City Chiefs. His enthusiasm for sports and delicious treats is matched only by his love of Star Wars. These fun and quirky interests only scratch the surface of what makes a kid like Maddox so special. Facing a prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease, he confronted treatments with courage while longing for time away from the hospital.

Surrounded by his family, Maddox underwent a routine procedure in 2018, which stretched into a series of ongoing treatments lasting until 2023. In spite of the intense trauma of constant medical procedures, Maddox has shown incredible resilience. In his darkest moments, he finds solace in Star Wars, seeing himself as a Jedi warrior in his own battle against his illness. His resilience mirrors the bravery of his favorite characters in facing their challenges head on.

When asked what he wanted his wish to be, Maddox instantly knew he wanted to visit the popular Star Wars attraction at Disney World, where he had a blast with his brother. They cherished every single moment away from the hospital. For Maddox and his family, his wish represented more than a break from the grueling routine of treatment; it was an opportunity for him to experience the joy and wonder of childhood again. Completely free from the shadow and trauma of his illness, the precious time away from the hospital and treatments offered Maddox and his family a glimmer of normalcy and happiness.
