JT's Birthday Party Wish
JT is an energetic, joyful, 5-year-old little boy. He loves listening to upbeat songs like Baby Shark and Old Town Road as well as the music from Cocomelon. JT loves cars, too. His favorite movie is Cars 3, he loves Lightening McQueen, and his favorite books to read are about cars!
Besides playing with cars and trucks, JT enjoys being outside. One of the things that bring him the most joy is going outside and experiencing new things. While he’s outside, he likes to take enjoy the fresh air and watch birds. When he’s with his mom and dad, JT likes to go on boat rides and fish. He likes playing with his toy fishing pole at home, so being able to fish in real life is very exciting.
JT was born with a respiratory disorder and other health complications. He is nonverbal and unable to walk on his own. Despite these challenges JT can communicate by pointing, making faces and at times making sounds or even singing with his speaking valve.
When JT was referred for a wish, his family helped him make the decision to have a fishing-themed fifth birthday party! JT was not expected to live through his fifth birthday, so having a huge birthday party was the perfect way to celebrate the fact that he has defied the odds of his diagnosis.
On a sunny fall day, JT gathered with friends and family at Boyd Farms to celebrate. The day was full of surprises and delights including a fun visit from local firefighters and police officers who wanted to show their support.
Guests enjoyed delicious food from Soulman’s BBQ, and after everyone finished eating, they gathered around JT to sing “Happy Birthday” and enjoy a cupcake.
Throughout the party, JT and his guests were able to enjoy a variety of fishing related activities like designing their own fish wind chime, painting lures, decorating personalized tackle boxes, and catching actual fish. There were also yard games, face painting, and the chance to look inside real police cars and fire trucks.
For one afternoon, JT, his friends, and family were able to celebrate life and enjoy each other’s company apart from his diagnosis. Thank you for helping us grant wishes like this!
