Loma is ready to take charge of her future!
Loma was an active teenager who played soccer and volleyball in high school. She developed a horrible cough in February 2019 and went to the hospital for testing. She and her family found out the devastating news that she had leukemia and pulmonary edema (lungs full of fluid). Over the following year, she had to undergo surgeries, CT scans, ultrasounds, x-rays, and chemotherapy treatments, which caused her to lose all her hair.
Loma took an active role in fighting her illness. She became vegan for its many health benefits and made physical activity a priority each day. Her older sister also became vegan to make going the lifestyle easier for Loma. Their bond with each other and their parents is inspiring and helped get Loma through her treatment.
Loma originally hoped to be a college athlete and study law, but her experience changed her outlook and plans. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to return to volleyball or soccer. She alsofelt immense gratitude for the amazing people around her who supported her through the toughest time in her life. For her, the nurses “were my superheroes and they healed me. I wish to be a pediatric nurse and do the same for someone else.”
Now that Loma is healthier, she is motivated and grateful and has started a nursing program! She is now able to confidently pursue her dream to be a nurse. Loma wished to have a shopping spree so she could get all the clothes, shoes, and school supplies she wanted to help her through her first year of college. Her confidence in herself has grown in the past year and she is ready to take on college and reach her goal to be a nurse!
“This new me is stronger, bolder, and much more aware of herself than ever. Thank you so much for this opportunity, I’m very appreciative.”
