Volunteer at the 2022 Evening of Wishes Gala

Evening of Wishes: A Blueprint for Joy, our signature gala will be held at The Hyatt Regency in San Francisco on Friday, May 13. The evening has two parts: a cocktail hour from 67 p.m. and dinner from 79:30 p.m. For more details about the event or to buy tickets, see the Evening of Wishes page.

We currently need help with the following roles for the evening:

Setup Crew, 3–7 p.m.
Before the event starts Setup volunteers will help unload all the event supplies, set up Silent Auction displays, set out programs, and will do anything else as assigned to them.

Registration, 4:30–7:30 p.m.
As guests arrive, registration volunteers will check them in, and get them signed up to bid in the live and silent auctions. Registration volunteers should be comfortable with using computers, outgoing, and friendly.

Greeters, 4:30–7:30 p.m.
When guests arrive, greeters are the friendly faces they see, welcoming them to the event. The gala will be held on a couple of different floors, so the Greeters will help point guests toward the event.

Floaters, 4:30–8 p.m. and 7–11:30 p.m.
Floaters are flexible volunteers who are ready to jump in wherever needed. Things come up at the last minute, and we often need people who can fill in to help with the unexpected needs that come up during events.

Volunteer Check-in, 4–8:30 p.m. and 7:30–11:30 p.m.
This behind-the-scenes job has two volunteers per shift to help check in other volunteers as they arrive and to keep an eye on people’s belongings while they are volunteering.

Table Hosts, 5–8:30 p.m.
When guests are ready to head down to dinner, table host volunteers will have a seating chart to help them find their tables and bring them to their tables.

Silent Auction, 5–9:30 p.m.
During the auction, these volunteers stand by the silent auction area, chat with guests, encourage them to bid up, and answer any questions they may have. At the end of the silent auction, these volunteers help break down the silent auction, carry supplies to the checkout area, etc. Must be able to lift at least a case of wine.

Raffle, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
Persuasive, outgoing volunteers are needed to help sell raffle tickets. Raffle volunteers will be on their feet, and should not be shy about approaching guests.

Live Auction Spotters, 7–11:30 p.m.
Live Auction Spotters will start by helping guests find their seats prior to dinner. Then, during the live auction, spotters stand around the room to catch the eye of the auctioneer when guests are bidding. Spotters should be loud, energetic volunteers. Scribes will help write down winning bid information.

Cashiers, 8–11:30 p.m.
The main duty of the dinner cashier is to perform checkout duties for guests as they head home. Volunteers should be friendly and comfortable with using computers.

Breakdown Crew, 9–11:30 p.m.
As the guests start to head home, volunteers will help pack up any supplies (leftover wine, silent auction items, computers, decorations, signage, etc.) and load them into a cargo van.
