Staff Spotlight: Sara Roelke
Name: Sara Roelke
Job title: Communications Manager
Years at Make-A-Wish: almost one!
Work anniversary date: May 11
What’s a typical day look like for you? Every day is different, but many of them include creating email campaigns, building out social media posts, writing press releases, working with the philanthropic advisors to create marketing materials for upcoming campaigns, writing wish stories and updating collateral for internal events!
Are you a Chi Omega girl? I am! I went to the University of Missouri to study journalism and learned so much about Make-A-Wish as a Chi Omega there. I loved meeting our wish kids, helping with fundraisers and seeing how every dollar added up to help make wishes come true!
Favorite part of your job: I love that I get to use my passion for writing and marketing to help make wishes come true every single day. I write and share impactful stories about incredible wish kids, and in turn, those stories bring in donations that grant more wishes! Such a rewarding cycle to see in action.
A memorable wish experience: Jesus’ wish for a horse! I wasn’t present at the wish, but I helped set up media for it. The joy on his face when he sees his horse for the first time is contagious. He is so incredibly happy, excited and in love with his horse at first sight, and it was fun to be able to get media out to that story so others could share in his joy, too!
Hobbies: Nutrition and fitness, fun dates with my husband, Trader Joe’s trips and spending time with my mom and sister!
Something people might not know about you: Since we're celebrating Chi Omega this month...my junior year, my chapter somehow won a contest where Aaron Carter came to our Chi O house. We all got to meet him and he stole a pillow from our foyer. Here he is, throwing what he knows.
