Volunteer Spotlight: Kim W.

Inspiring Others Through Action

For this month’s volunteer spotlight, we are thrilled to introduce a treasured wish granter, Kim Wicker! Kim is a McKinney native who has been happily married to Dan, her high school sweetheart, for 27 years. They have two amazing adult children, Justin and Jenna, who also share their love for Make-A-Wish!

Kim has been involved with Make-A-Wish North Texas since January 2020 and is now working on her 26th wish. Once a child finds out their wish is being granted, Kim gets to know them and helps them think about all the possibilities and what will bring them joy. She also loves to help coordinate special details for the wish and attend wish reveals when she can!

“I always leave a wish feeling blessed and rewarded! These kids are so special, and their smiles melt my heart,” she expressed.

The impact Make-A-Wish has had on Kim encouraged her daughter Jenna to get involved, too. Jenna is graduating from Michigan State University this May, and in her spare time, she volunteers as a wish granter, following in the footsteps of her mother. After graduation, she’s planning to grant wishes in North Texas with her mom. Kim’s husband also enjoys supporting Make-A-Wish by attending events in the Dallas area alongside Kim.

Kim also works with the Make-A-Wish team on rush wishes for children who are in critical need for a wish to be granted quicker than others. She’s ready and willing to spring into action as soon as the need arises.

“When I see a request for a rush wish, I am pulled to help fulfill as many as I am able to in my spare time,” she said.

She has a heart for helping others and for the Make-A-Wish mission.

“Volunteering has opened my eyes to all the way I am able to touch the lives of these kids and families in such a small but major way. I feel Make-A-Wish does a great job in identifying children and providing them with the wishes they need!” she shared.

Kim plans to stay involved with Make-A-Wish North Texas for years to come and grant more wishes for children with critical illnesses! We’re incredibly grateful for her love for our wish kids and her continued support of our mission.
