Volunteer Spotlight: Melissa B.
What ways are you involved as a volunteer?
Wish granter and wish pal
How did you first find Make-A-Wish?
I watched the movie “Wish Man” and started searching for an opportunity!
How long have you been volunteering with Make-A-Wish Minnesota?
I think about one and a half years.
What has been the most rewarding experience of volunteering with Make-A-Wish?
My wish kid is doing well…so it has been awesome to see his health return! After enduring rounds of challenging chemo treatments his hair has now grown back—love seeing those curls-- and him growing tall too…all while he is still waiting for his wish!
What advice would you give to new volunteers?
Reach out to volunteers who have been doing it for a while. They can offer some awesome ideas and great support.
What story would you share to inspire others to become a volunteer with Make-A-Wish?
I don’t really have a story since this is pretty new to me and I joined during COVID but here’s what I would say….
Take a chance and do something new! There is so much need out there, kids every day that need this support! Even if you think you are too busy, you can have an impact with minimal effort in small ways that culminate to make a lasting experience for kids who have endured so much!
