Eldy's Wish to have Camera Equipment
At the age of 14, Eldy began to experience pain in her legs. After many extensive tests, she was diagnosed with cancer. She said she felt confused at first, then angry, but with the help of her family, Eldy chose to have a positive outlook, despite her circumstances. When Eldy had to go to the hospital, her mom stayed by her side. Her brother and sister helped in any way they could. The family had to go through sudden changes, but they communicated with each other and remained strong together.
Eldy always had a passion for photography. As a child, she would often take pictures of her family with her mom’s camera. So, when Make-A-Wish volunteers asked her what her one true wish would be, she knew right away, she wanted a camera. She finally had something to look forward to! Counting down the days, she thought about the beautiful pictures she would take with her new camera.
Eldy describes her wish day as more than she could have imagined! She was beyond excited and grateful for her new camera, which came with different lenses, a carrying case and SD cards to capture all her memories. To top it all off, a professional photographer stopped by to show Eldy some tips on how to take the perfect picture! With his help, Eldy learned the different styles of photography including portraits and landscapes. With his helpful advice, she was able to take her first professional photo. It looked amazing!
Today Eldy is thankfully in remission. She continues to take photos and hopes to be a professional photographer one day. Her favorite picture so far is one she took of her sister. Eldy says her wish helped her see how much her health and outlook were improving. It made her realize that she overcame huge challenges, and that with photography, she can continue to create more memories.
