Vincent Visits NYC

Vincent, 17, from the western suburbs of Chicago, is an outgoing and ambitious high school senior who fills his days with music, service, and time with the people he loves most. Vincent, 17, from the western suburbs of Chicago, is an outgoing and ambitious high school senior who fills his days with music, service, and time with the people he loves most. Whether he’s playing his trumpet, volunteering as a second-grade catechist at his parish, or enjoying a game of bowling with friends, Vincent brings energy and heart to everything he does.

Before his diagnosis, Vincent’s world revolved around hockey. He had been playing competitively since he was five years old and dreamed of continuing the sport in college, and maybe someday, even professionally. During his sophomore year of high school, that dream came to a sudden halt when his health required he hang up his skates for good. The change was devastating for Vincent, who then spent the following year navigating doctor visits, tests, and uncertainty navigating the realities of his heart condition. Along the way, he and his family found comfort in the care of his medical team at Lurie Children’s Hospital, who introduced them to Make-A-Wish.

Sidelined from contact sports, Vincent discovered a new passion: music and theatre. This became his outlet and a great source of joy. When he learned that his wish would come true, it gave him something uplifting to focus on during an otherwise difficult time. In the months leading up to his trip, car rides were filled with show tunes, and Vincent and his sister still love blasting Broadway tracks and singing along together.

For his wish, Vincent knew exactly what he wanted—to experience the magic of New York City and see Broadway shows in person.

Vincent’s wish trip was nothing short of unforgettable. From the bright lights of Times Square to the excitement of sitting in a Broadway theater, every moment brought him joy and inspiration. Of all the shows he experienced, The Great Gatsby was his favorite. He and his family also explored meaningful landmarks like the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty, creating memories they will cherish forever. Vincent's mom, Eliseangela, shared, "We were so grateful. Seeing Vince’s eyes light up in Times Square and at the shows we attended was something I will never forget.”

Even now, the experience lives on in their home and their hearts, with photos displayed in their living room as a reminder of their incredible journey. Vincent continues to dream big, sharing that one day he hopes to play in a Broadway pit orchestra in New York or Chicago. He also hopes to give back by supporting Make-A-Wish in the future as a music educator and performer.

Vincent’s wish was more than a trip; it was a source of hope, a celebration of his passions, and a reminder of all of the possibilities for a bright future.
