Meet WishMaker Kristen
That’s why, alongside tests and treatment plans, Kristen makes it a priority to refer as many eligible children as possible to Make-A-Wish.
Working closely with families, Kristen says it’s one of the few moments where she can deliver joyful news.
“This is something that is always filled with hope and joy,” Kristen said. “So, we get to be truly part of that partnership between a family and their child to be able to take away some of the anxiety and bring them some hope and joy, and fun, and laughter to their life.”
Over the past three years, Kristen has referred more than 120 children to receive a wish. She believes a wish is a vital part of a child’s treatment journey.
For Kristen, referring children to Make-A-Wish is more than providing a joyful experience – it’s about restoring hope for a brighter future, and she encourages her colleagues to do the same.
“You get to completely bring joy and continued hope for children and their families for years to come,” Kristen said. “These are things that kids, years down the road, come back and still get this very sense of peace, and love, and feel joy … Being involved with Make-A-Wish is a lasting impression.”
Every day, an average of 73 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with a critical illness that makes them eligible for a wish. That’s 2,190 children during World Wish Month alone.
Medical partners like Kristen, as well as parents, legal guardians and family members with detailed knowledge of a child’s medical condition, have the power to help these children replace fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope through a wish referral.
A wish really gives them... a chance to be a child again. I think one of the best beauties is giving kids their smile back.
