Wish Mom and Volunteer Kate

Kate and her family at Disney World

Mabel’s wish to go to Disney World didn’t just bring joy to her family - it rekindled her mom Kate’s belief that there are people in the world who support Mabel and help their family experience the simple, “normal” moments that can be harder to reach because of her condition. For Kate, that kindness was a reminder that they’re not alone.

Kate’s favorite part of the trip was watching Mabel ride the teacups and seeing her face light up during the Magic Kingdom fireworks. It brought tears to her eyes to watch her daughter experience the kinds of joys many kids her age take for granted. Moments Mabel had missed out on because of her medical challenges.

Inspired by the impact of Mabel’s wish, Kate decided to give back. Just one year later, she became a wish granter, volunteered at Wish Ball, and even spent time helping out in the office. For her, the most meaningful part of volunteering with Make-A-Wish is “giving back to an organization that was so meaningful for our family, meeting other families with similar challenges, and sharing my experience with them.”

When asked what message she’d share with current wish kids, Kate’s advice is simple and powerful: have courage.

Thank you, Kate, for all the ways you’ve given back to Make-A-Wish Minnesota and to wish families. Your generosity continues to make wishes possible.
