Volunteer Spotlight: Amanda Fisher
This month, we are thrilled to highlight Amanda, a passionate Make-A-Wish volunteer and member of the Dallas Junior League. Each year, Amanda selects a volunteer placement through the League, and this term she was matched with Make-A-Wish—a role that perfectly aligns with her values and professional background as a nurse. Amanda says that in her work and volunteer life, she deeply values meaningful interactions that make a genuine difference in people’s lives, and wish granting allows her to do just that.
What Amanda enjoys most about wish granting is the unique connection she shares with each child. “I love being the bearer of wonderful news and seeing the genuine reactions of each child,” she shares. “Witnessing parents’ smiles and providing them with a moment of fun and dreaming is incredibly rewarding.” One of her recent experiences exemplifies this joy. She connected virtually with a spirited young boy whose energy immediately lit up the screen. Over an hour-long Zoom call, he eagerly shared details about his daily life, hobbies, love for dancing, and his family. Amanda reflects, “It’s certain that child made more of an impact on me than I could have made on him.”
Through her volunteer work, Amanda has gained not only new experiences but also a fresh perspective on life. “Volunteering with Make-A-Wish has taught me to slow down, appreciate life’s small moments, and see the world in a new way,” she says. Her motivation to volunteer comes naturally: she is constantly inspired by the resilience of children and the power of their smiles. “With so many children still waiting for their wishes, my heart is continually pulled to sign up for as many wish-granting assignments as I can,” she adds.
Amanda encourages others to consider volunteering with Make-A-Wish, emphasizing that the process is easy and that there is a role for everyone, whether it’s wish granting, wish delivery, or other volunteer opportunities. “There’s a place for everyone. The process is simple, and the profound impact you get to make on a child’s and their family’s life is truly extraordinary,” she says.
We are incredibly grateful for Amanda’s dedication, enthusiasm, and heart for service. Volunteers like her help Make-A-Wish create magical moments and life-changing experiences for children and their families every day.
