During a particularly bad flare-up from her autoimmune disorder, Sandy was in constant pain and felt isolated while her friends enjoyed summer camp and other activities. Her wish for a computer helped her stay connected, entertained, and keep up with schoolwork.
Today, her autoimmune disorder is stable, but remembering her wish helps her get through any flare-ups. Sandy is now an Associate Producer at The Chicago Lighthouse for a weekly radio segment and a strong advocate for the rights and respect of people with disabilities.
To future wish kids, Sandy says: “Having a wish granted is one of the best things that will happen to you during your medical journey. No matter what you wish for, the memories and happy moments it will bring are priceless and you will cherish them for the rest of your life!”
