Adasyn’s Wish: Galloping into the Waves

Wish Kid Adasyn has always been drawn to horses. Her fascination grew into a love that made riding one of her biggest dreams.

Twelve-year-old Wish Kid Adasyn has always been drawn to horses. She never rode one growing up, but she would read about them in books, even back in kindergarten. It was Adasyn’s dream to combine her love of horses with her love of the beach, and that dream turned into a Wish that brought her family to the beautiful coast of South Carolina.

At first, when a family member approached Adasyn’s Mom about Make-A-Wish, she was hesitant. “I thought Make-A-Wish was a last resort,” she said. But after some encouragement from her support system to research more, she realized it was about giving hope to families who face challenging medical situations. She, Adasyn, and the family then began to find the strength and comfort in joining a community that understood the complexities they’ve faced. That’s when things started to get magical.

Adasyn’s Wish took her to the breathtaking coastline of Myrtle Beach, where she got to ride a horse with her sister, steps away from the ocean.

Adasyn’s thoughts? “Oh my Gosh, I am getting to ride a horse on the beach!”

Wish Mom Ashley reflected that it looked like Adasyn had been riding all her life, and upon seeing the smiles, she began wondering if she needed to get Addy a horse of her own.

I saw sand dollars and shells, Myrtle Beach has so many shells,” Adasyn said. As it turns out, a highlight of the experience was the shells. Adasyn even took home an entire bag full of them; the most shells she’s ever taken home from anywhere.

We had six days on the beach with no medical appointments. It was just time to spend with each other,” said Wish Mom Ashley. “Our only responsibility was making memories with each other. We got to breathe for six days and do something as a family we would have never done before. Addy ziplines 50 feet above the water like a boss! We had so much fun.”

In fact, they’re hoping to go back, in a few years.

We were steps from the ocean. We saw so many things and ate so much food. It was seamless. As a mom, it was so nice to be free, seeing how happy they were spending time in a beautiful place. We’re excited to go back someday where we connected as a family will mean so much,” said Adasyn’s mom.

In the meantime, though, Adasyn is paying it forward.

It was a wonderful opportunity for us, and now we can give back to help others reach their dreams. Adasyn raised $1,000 through her personal fundraiser. Make-A-Wish has given us a community outside of our own community,” said Adasyn’s mom.

We would never have given ourselves the opportunity to do this, being so focused on doctor's appointments. We came back sun kissed and grateful.”
