What ways are you involved as a volunteer?

Wish Granter

How did you first find Make-A-Wish?

A friend of mine had talked about why he started volunteering with MAW, and it made me very interested in learning more.

How long have you been volunteering with Make-A-Wish MN?

I believe almost 10 years.  I’ve lost count.

What has been the most rewarding experience of volunteering with Make-A-Wish?

One of the best parts is seeing the joy on the kids’ faces when their wishes come true. I also really enjoy getting to know the families and sharing those special moments with them.

What advice would you give to new volunteers?

Don’t hesitate to take on wishes that might feel a bit outside your comfort zone—sometimes those can be the most meaningful. I’ve worked with children who communicate in different ways or with families who felt unsure at first, and those experiences have been truly special. Remember, your presence and support mean so much to both the wish child and their family.

What story would you share to inspire others to become a volunteer with Make-A-Wish?

Sometimes, balancing a full-time job with volunteering can feel a bit overwhelming, and I’ve wondered if I’m truly making an impact for the wish kids and their families. But as soon as I get to meet them or hear about the joy the wish brings, I’m reminded how much it matters. Give what you can—every bit of effort counts, and you’re truly making a positive difference.
