An Escape For the Little FighterÂ
When Sawyer boarded the plane to Orlando, the pilots invited him into the cockpit where he got to sit in the captain's chair and learn about all the buttons and controls. His mom called the trip "a well-deserved escape for the little fighter." Sawyer has fought his entire life. When he was born, he had to live in a nitrogen tent to keep his oxygen levels low. He's had open heart surgery and several hospitalizations, and his struggle continues to this day.Â
His favorite moments on his wish trip were meeting Mickey, Pluto, and Goofy, getting to eat all the free ice cream he wanted from Starlite Scoops at Give Kids the World, and going on Space Mountain, a ride that seemed frightening at the time, but afterwards Sawyer couldn't stop talking about it. "It was the best ride ever!" he'd tell people.Â
"The trip wasn’t just a vacation; it was a celebration of Sawyer’s strength and courage, a week where the world seemed to revolve around making him smile. Even now, he still talks about his favorite moments, from soaring through space on a roller coaster to playing with his beloved Disney characters. For Sawyer, Disney World wasn’t just the happiest place on Earth—it was a place where dreams, big and small, came true," his mom wrote.
