Summary

The Development Associate reports to the Director of Development & Operations and serves as an integral member of the Development Team. This position will plan and manage all aspects of the Annual Giving program, provide support and assistance for gift processing, stewardship and cultivation, and work with the overall goal to increase awareness and raise funds for the mission of Make-A-Wish Central New York.

The successful candidate will be an excellent project leader and team player who balances multi-tasking and priorities, has outstanding communication skills, is adept at managing donor relationships, and is well-versed in fundraising best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement strategic annual donor solicitation calendar, including content and design for appeals, strategies for effective donor segmentation to retain annual donors, increase year-over-year giving levels, and increase annual donor base.
  • Create and maintain monthly donor campaign.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of annual donors and prospects by developing and executing effective and meaningful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that may include outreach through in-person visits, emails, phone calls, and social media platforms.
  • Assist with prospecting, research, pipeline development, and moves management.
  • Serve as data steward for the donor database. Ensure that donor records in the CRM are current and maintained so the data has a high degree of accuracy.
  • Manage the following campaigns and programs annually: Wish Heroes, Workplace Giving, and Wish Makers on Campus with the goal of growing revenue YOY.
  • Manage and leverage National Corporate Partnerships locally to maximize local engagement, opportunities, and revenue.
  • Ensure donor stewardship program appropriately and consistently recognizes donors at all levels, and includes tax acknowledgments, thank you letters, newsletters, and an annual Report. Assist in establishing and coordinating individual stewardship plans as needed.
  • Support cross-functional collaborations to maximize wish stories and promote Make-A-Wish.
  • Support team progress towards goals.
  • Assist with annual budget projections.
  • Attend events and speaking engagements as needed.
  • Network with other professionals and organizations in our region to better understand the potential for philanthropic engagement and share ideas and opportunities with the team.
  • Assist staff with in-kind solicitations for wishes, events, and other projects, as needed.
  • Foster a culture of cooperation and collaboration at both the Chapter level and National level.
  • Adhere to all Make-A-Wish performance standards, internal controls, policies, and procedures.

Requirements
  • BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience in fundraising, or a related field. 1 – 3 years’ experience in a non-profit development role is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Make-A-Wish and the ability to effectively articulate these to motivate and encourage donors and prospects at all levels.
  • Experience in team-based, cross-functional work environments with effective and respectful communication, both written and verbal.
  • Strong project management skills, self-motivated, and detail-oriented to prioritize work multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills.
  • Proficient with donor database systems, preferably Salesforce, and knowledge of online fundraising tools.
  • Understanding of budget development and management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; capable of learning new programs.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in some evening and weekend events as required.

Job requires travel throughout the fifteen-county region and some travel for national training opportunities.

Hiring Range:

$55,000 - $60,000/year.

Compensation includes a comprehensive package of employee and health benefits.
