National Waffle Day

EPIC WAFFLE EATING SHOWDOWN: POLICE VS. FIREFIGHTERS AT NATIONAL WAFFLE DAY CONTEST HOSTED BY MAKE-A-WISH AND CAPPY’S CAFÉ IN NEWPORT BEACH
Get ready for an epic showdown this National Waffle Day! Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire (OCIE), in partnership with Cappy's Cafe, are bringing the heat with a thrilling waffle eating contest you won’t want to miss. Watch as the Newport Beach Police Department squares off against the Newport Beach Fire Department in a fierce three-minute battle to see who can devour the most waffles! Assistant Fire Chief, Justin Carr and Deputy Police Chief, Javier Aguilar will be leading their respective teams, fueling the excitement. To make things even sweeter, Cappy’s Cafe will donate $50 to Make-A-Wish OCIE for every waffle consumed during the contest, adding a delicious twist to the competition.
Adding to the special day, wish alum Jacob Grimstead will captivate the crowd with his inspiring medical journey and wish story. Jacob, who battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma, found comfort and distraction in playing Roblox during his treatments. His wish to meet the creators of Roblox was granted in 2018 when he was just 15 years old. His love for computers and his unforgettable wish experience continue to have a lasting impact on his life. But that’s not all—Jacob will step into the spotlight as the contest judge, and with the power in his hands, he’ll crown the ultimate waffle champion!
We would love to have you attend the event to cheer on the teams and learn more about Make-A-Wish!
Cappy’s Cafe, a Newport Beach staple for 42 years, has been a proud partner of Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire for the past six years. In this time, the cafe has donated $1 for every kid’s meal purchased and been a supporter of the annual Pickleball for Wishes both of which support the granting of life-changing wishes to local children with critical illnesses. This year’s waffle eating contest continues Cappy’s tradition, building on last year’s successful mac and cheese eating contest.
The event will highlight the importance of community support in making wishes come true. Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire has granted over 8,100 life-changing wishes for local children with critical illnesses. With 500 local children waiting on their wish, contributions from partners like Cappy’s Cafe make a significant impact in helping to bring hope and strength to these children and their families.
