From Wish Kid to Volunteer: Why Abbie Tremp Gives Back
What happens when you’re granted a wish? For wish alum Abbie Tremp, it means transforming her wish experience into a passion for giving back and helping to create even more life-changing wishes as an intern and volunteer.
Abbie’s journey with Make-A-Wish began in 2017 when she received her own wish to visit Washington, D.C. through the Make-A-Wish Orange County chapter.
“I was planning to go on an eighth-grade field trip to Washington D.C., but I couldn’t go because of a surgery.” Abbie said. “I was still able to visit and have this experience thanks to Make-A-Wish.”
“I went on the floor of the House of Representatives, which is something you can’t normally do. We sat in the seats and everything. After, we went to Georgetown Cupcakes which is a shop in Georgetown, one of the reasons why I wanted to go to D.C.”

Wishes give kids the magical experience to be a kid again.

Wish Alum, wish granting intern and volunteer
After her wish, Abbie continued to stay involved with Make-A-Wish, fundraising for wishes as a Kids for Wish Kids member in middle school and high school. Then, once she turned 18, Abbie officially joined the volunteer team at Make-A-Wish Arizona.
As both a wish recipient and a volunteer, her unique experience enriches her perspective.
“I love giving back, especially to organizations that have given me so much.”
Abbie’s connection to the organization runs deep—her mother has been a volunteer for years, working in wish granting and photography, making it a true family affair.
“It’s super fun because you can go to the airport for a few hours and then send a wish kid off on an airplane, which isn’t a normal thing you can do with other organizations.”
Now, as a Wish Granting Intern, Abbie’s volunteer work is even more impactful. From setting up a gaming computer wish to helping plan a camping trailer wish, she’s embraced every opportunity to create joy. One memorable experience was decorating a mermaid-themed playhouse for wish kid Quinn.

It’s amazing to see all the smiles of the kids as they get their wish and how they’re super happy.

To anyone who is interested in volunteering, Abbie hopes you will get involved.
“Some people might think it’s hard to volunteer because of work or school, but I will go to the airport for a few hours to send a wish kid off in the morning before class. If it’s something you want to do and are passionate about, you can find a way to make time for it.”
