TOPGOLF and Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana to Surprise New Orleans Wish Kid with Monster Truck Playset
NEW ORLEANS, LA (JULY 8, 2024) – For three-year-old Rontrell, his days are comprised of playing outside, watching Sonic the Hedgehog on television, eating ice cream on a hot day, and playing with his monster trucks. When thinking of his wish, Rontrell knew exactly what he wanted: a monster truck themed playset for his backyard.
Thanks to national corporate partner, TOPGOLF, that dream is coming true with a big surprise this coming Friday, July 12. The reveal will take place promptly at 9:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting in Rontrell’s backyard of his family home in Arabi.
Rontrell, who suffers from congenital heart disease, will be staying with family this coming week. When he comes home on Friday, he will be greeted with his brand-new playset, equipped with all the monster truck customizations perfect for a Hot Wheels loving little boy. The playset customizations are being designed and installed by New Orleans based contractor, The McDonnel Group.
“We cannot wait to see Rontrell’s reaction to his monster truck playset for the first time. This is such an unbelievable gift for Rontrell and his family. We are so thankful for TOPGOLF for their unwavering support of Make-A-Wish over the past eight years, and to The McDonnel Group for helping us bring this dream to a reality. When a community comes together to support a local family, magical things happen,” said Jessica Ansel, Vice President of Philanthropy for Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana.
But that isn’t the only surprise set for Rontrell. On Friday, Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana will also surprise Rontrell and his family with VIP tickets to the Hot Wheels Monster Truck Live show happening in October at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette.
Later this month, TOPGOLF will also be making a quick pitstop with their traveling Ice Cream Truck to New Orleans, and plan to surprise Rontrell with an afternoon summer dessert to help him cool off from his playdays on his new playset.
Rontrell’s wish is part of the Summer of Wishes campaign, a campaign launched by Make-A-Wish to help grant as many wishes as possible during the summer. Currently, there are 1,250 children across the Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana chapter waiting for their wish to be granted.
Summer should be a time of joy for children – full of rest, relaxation, play and fun in the sun. But kids with critical illnesses are often missing out on the excitement of summer – forced to stay indoors, isolated from their siblings and friends who are playing outside. Many are even enduring painful treatments that are exhausting and can create a very dark chapter during a time that should be filled with sunshine and warm memories. A wish can change everything for these children – giving them the strength and hope they need to persevere in the fight against their illness. The Summer of Wishes campaign is focused on making sure every eligible child has a chance to have their wish granted – while also giving back the opportunity to be a child again.
