Volunteer Spotlight: Ben's Journey with Make-A-Wish
Ben Posorske has always had a special connection with Make-A-Wish. Growing up, his mother would dress up as Disney characters to visit wish kids during their treatment. Even during his college years, he remained involved, actively fundraising for the local Make-A-Wish chapter.
Today, when Ben isn’t working as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Phoenix Children's Hospital, you can find him helping wishes come true as a WishMaker at Make-A-Wish Arizona.
As an avid wish granter, Ben’s involvement with Make-A-Wish offers him the opportunity to step out of his clinical setting and experience the wish journey.
“It has been remarkable to hang out with these kids and see them with their families,” reflects Ben. “It's been really rewarding.”
Through his experience as a wish granter, Ben has gained a profound understanding of the impact of a diagnosis, highlighting the importance of providing moments of strength, hope and transformation.
Currently, Ben is working on 10 wishes and mentions his favorite part about volunteering is the ease and impact.
“It’s easy to volunteer and when you can focus on the wish kid itself, everything else falls into place.”
For Ben, the joy that Make-A-Wish brings to children battling critical illnesses can be summed up into one word: revolutionary.
"A lot of times I hear from these children that they don't have anywhere to turn, they feel very old for their age because they feel like they don't have time to experience being a kid,” he explains. “A wish allows children a pivot point in their life to begin to experience what it feels like to be a kid and to not focus on treatment and exams and meetings with physicians.”
