I wish to have electronics

Kyree and his big brother smile on Kyree's wish day

Kyree's Gaming Wish

From Pekin, sweet Kyree has been fighting leukemia for almost two years, including spending time far from home at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. After a tough recovery from a bone marrow transplant, Kyree relied on the warm support of his family, with his best friend and older brother, Juan. The two are close and love spending time competing in flag football, watching movies, and playing video games.

Kyree was ecstatic to learn he could wish for something he could share with his brother; a full complement of electronics for them to enjoy. The setup included an Xbox, PS5, TV, gaming chairs, headsets, and more!

To transform Kyree’s wish into a reality, Make-A-Wish Illinois had the help of Kyree’s volunteer wish granter, Brigit Harper. As a central Illinois native and mom of a former St. Jude's patient, Brigit was inspired to become involved with the organization. She understands personally how taxing a critical illness can be on a family and aims to be a light and give back to those going through difficult times.

Kyree is tight with his big brother and really wanted him to share in his wish. Brigit kept that top of mind when planning and created the whole experience with both of them in mind.

When it was time to set everything up for Kyree, she planned an entire day of celebrations for the family. First, it was a trip to spend the day at their favorite trampoline park with their grandma and grandpa. Then it was a party at home where they would be surprised with all of the electronics set up and ready to play.

“The boys were so surprised when they came home,” Brigit recalls.  “They both gave huge hugs and their smiles were priceless. It warms my heart to be a part of the entire process."

The joy we were able to bring to this family who has been through so much is priceless!
