TJ Wishes It Forward

Wish kid Trent, who goes by TJ, is a 9-year-old boy from Charlotte who is quite humble and mature for his age. At 8 years old, his medical team referred him for a wish due to his congenital heart disease. They also put TJ on the list for a heart transplant. Shortly thereafter, a wish for TJ was approved.

TJ is a bright, happy, and thoughtful kid with a twin sister, who would like to be waaay more active than his condition allows. When the time came to talk about his wish, post heart transplant, TJ confessed that a dog wish had crossed his mind. But he already had a dog. What TJ really wanted was to wish his wish forward.

TJ didn’t know exactly what he wanted to wish forward; he just knew that he wanted to help another wish kid have a super awesome wish. So, he first enlisted the help of his parents, Greg and Kara Olsen.

His dad, NFL great Greg Olsen, was preparing for a “Day of Giving” event connected to the Super Bowl at the time. The idea was then born to grant a Super Bowl wish through TJ’s wishing it forward. After looking into it, TJ’s family discovered that a local wish kid wished to go to the Super Bowl. To go to the Super Bowl is a big wish and without TJ’s wish, Adin would still be waiting for his wish to be granted. With TJ’s ‘wish it forward’ wish, along with his father’s help and corporate support, Adin of Charlotte was selected to be the recipient of TJ’s wish it forward!

TJ, the Olsen family, and Make-A-Wish told Adin and his parents in February this year (2023) in a special surprise wish reveal. The wish reveal was absolutely epic, and the special moment was even captured by corporate sponsor Truist, which you can view here.

TJ’s wish was granted! Adin’s wish would be granted! Adin and has parents flew to Arizona to see Super Bowl LVII, the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Philadelphia Eagles, live and in-person. TJ’s wish did more than just provide an unforgettable experience for another child. “The anticipation leading up to the game motivated me to get out of my wheelchair and work on walking with assistance. The ability to walk helped me get back on my high school campus and attend classes. I expect to graduate in May,” said Adin. “I was so encouraged by my progress, I applied to UNC-Charlotte and am proud to report that I have been accepted.”

"Since the Super Bowl, I have been pushing myself every day to get my independence back. Thank you again for helping me on my journey to recovery." -Adin, wish kid
