Love at First Wish

The Covid-19 pandemic changed many things in 2020—travel plans, the way we meet, and the way we interact with friends and loved ones. One thing the pandemic did not change—critical illnesses in children. Children in our state are still becoming gravely ill and Make-A-Wish New Mexico is still trying to bring hope, strength, and joy to their lives by helping them understand their innermost wish, and when possible, granting that wish. Because of the life changing power of a wish, the Southern New Mexico Make-A-Wish.

Ambassadors remain committed to raising funds to support wish granting within our community.

The major fundraising event for Make-A-Wish New Mexico in Doña Ana County for the past two years has been Love at First Wish, a mid-February event that has raised more than $65,000 to help support the wishes of critically ill children. The ongoing pandemic precludes holding an in-person event this year, but it does not do away with the need for funds to support wishes.

And so, this year Love at First Wish will go on, not in the form of an in-person event, but rather in the form of a fundraising drive with a greater focus on children in our community. Below we briefly introduce four of the children from Doña Ana County whose wishes we are working to fulfill.

Wish Children

They are part of a larger group of 15 local children and 140 children across the state with wishes waiting to be granted.

We hope that acquainting you with these four children will inspire you and convey a greater understanding of the impact your support of Make-A-Wish New Mexico has on the lives of deserving children and their families.

*If public health guidelines allow, a celebration of the Love at First Wish campaign will be held on June 19, 2021 in the outdoor area of The Hood. During this morning reception, we will celebrate our final fundraising totals and acknowledge sponsors while enjoying a light brunch. The Hood will also be open for browsing and sales. Please note that if this reception is not able to happen in person, we hope you will take pleasure in the knowledge that your support will have a transformational impact on the lives of some very deserving children.

Thank you to our passionate sponsors who made life-changing wishes come true for children in Southern New Mexico
