Zulma's wish better late...

Meet wish kid Zulma, an 18-year-old girl from Kannapolis. Zulma’s wish is to have a birthday party. This friendly girl has a condition without curative treatment options, but she doesn’t let that interrupt her dreams and interests. Zulma loves music and dancing and all things from the movie “Frozen.” She loves art too and can often be found drawing. She also likes to ride her bike and go for walks.

Zulma’s wish journey began at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Offered the opportunity to change her party wish to another more COVID-friendly one, she chose to wait. Zulma’s mom knew her sweet, affectionate girl, who is developmentally delayed and speech-impaired, dreamed of dancing in a beautiful dress, just like her favorite movie characters. Critical illness and other life factors brought more delays for her wish to be granted; however, Zulma was steadfast in her wish for a quinceañera-type celebration.

It was finally time for her wish to be granted. Make-A-Wish supporters jumped in to make Zulma’s party fit for a princess. Belk helped with a beautiful custom dress, a makeover and hairstyle. The Lakes A Wedding and Party Place helped with an awesome event space. And Black Diamond Limousine helped with a glamourous ride. Zulma’s wish party also included birthday cake, countless balloons, and a DJ for dancing the day away. A photographer pitched-in too to capture the unforgettable day. Zulma loved having her picture taken!
