Summary
The Major Gift Officer (MGO) is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to secure major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support the mission of Make-A-Wish. The MGO will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, build strong relationships, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve fundraising goals.
Responsibilities
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors
- Develop personalized engagement plans for each donor in the portfolio
- Conduct face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and written communications to build and maintain relationships
- Fundraising Strategy:
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals
- Collaborate with the Director of Development and other team members to align major gift efforts with overall fundraising plans
- Prepare proposals, presentations, and other materials to support major gift solicitations
- Portfolio Management:
- Manage a portfolio of 75-100 major gift prospects and donors
- Track and report on progress towards fundraising goals using Salesforce
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of donor interactions and gift agreements
- Event Participation:
- Participate in and support fundraising events, including donor recognition events, galas, and other special events
- Engage with donors and prospects at events to build relationships and identify new opportunities for support
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with the development team, board members, and volunteers to leverage relationships and maximize fundraising potential
- Collaborate with program staff to understand funding needs and communicate impact to donors
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising
- Proven track record of securing major gifts ($25,000+) and meeting fundraising goals
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite
