An integral member of the individual giving team that will secure funds for Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina by fulfilling the interests and passions of donors; providing them with giving opportunities and encouraging them to fulfill their philanthropic goals in alignment with our mission.
As Director of Individual Giving and Foundation Relations, you will continue developing our Individual Giving Program by managing and executing a strategy focused on identifying, cultivating and soliciting all individual and foundation donors, which includes major and mid-level giving. The primary functions of the Director of Individual and Foundation Relations role include:
- Achieve the chapter’s revenue goals by growing individual giving and foundation opportunities.
- Create a mid and major gift development strategy and specific plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual donors and foundations
- Grow and manage a portfolio of donors who currently give $2,500+ with potential for much bigger giving.
- Establish protocols and procedures to identify individual giving prospects with the capacity to give $25,000 or more sourced from all chapter campaigns.
- Proactively build a high-quality donor pipeline through networking, exploratory meetings and referrals.
- Manage a portfolio of 100-125 constituents.
- Follow the chapter’s stewardship process to ensure that all donors feel treasured and are thanked in a timely manner for their donation and create unique opportunities to engage donors with the mission
- Build meaningful relationships and inspire donors with compelling storytelling and cases for support that are aligned with donor passion.
- Establish strong working relationships and networks with both internal and external stakeholders, including CEO, staff, board of directors, regional boards, national staff, volunteers, donors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Grow relationships with local Foundations and Grant Organizations and manage a part-time grant writer.
- Oversee final grant submissions to ensure accuracy and opportunity for the Chapter to be considered as a funding partner.
- Work closely with Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure external vehicles for fundraising (web, e-news, newsletters, annual report, wish stories) match internal messages, goals and strategies, to develop market-specific collateral material to promote giving options for current and potential individual donors, and to produce annual mailings; facilitate data pulls, messaging, printing and mailing of appeals.
- Ensure prospect/donor moves are tracked appropriately in Raiser’s Edge using actions and notes.
- Tracks national direct marketing and online giving results and collaborates with the National Office on opportunities to increase giving at the chapter level.
- Work closely with colleagues to cross-cultivate constituents and promote the many ways individual donors can support the Foundation including donor advised funds, stock gifts, cash and non-cash assets.
EVENT SUPPORT
- Works with Team to strategize on key corporate sponsor prospects generated from individual donors.
- Develop a robust event and post-event stewardship action plan to transform donors from transactional to relational.
- Works closely with Director of Donor Engagement to ensure W.I.S.H. Society donors in portfolio are cultivated and renew annual membership.
- Works with Development Team to support signature events.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The position will supervise 1 part-time direct report who oversees the Organizations grant writing.
GENERAL
- At least 50% of the Individual Giving Manager’s time should be spent visiting donors face-to-face or through a virtual platform.
- Provide positive and professional representation on behalf of the Foundation.
- Prepare expense and revenue projections for annual budget; monitor financial results on a monthly basis and strategize accordingly.
- Foster a culture of cooperation and collaboration among the various departments of the Chapter.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in development, especially in mid-level to major gifts with a proven track record of success, or a relevant combination of industry-specific education and experience.
- A minimum of three years’ experience supervising a staff member whether paid staff or skilled volunteers and serving as mentor
- Advanced certifications related to industry preferred.
- A superior orientation to serving donors.
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards in management, governance, and fund development.
- A well-established track record of successfully identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to inspire and connect donors to our mission.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make rapid decisions regarding management and development issues.
- Professional and polished image with a comfort in dealing with high-net-worth individuals.
- Knowledge of and experience with effective database management systems such as Raiser’s Edge or SalesForce.
- Strong fiscal knowledge and data analysis ability.
- Strong executive presence in representing our organization locally, regionally and nationally.
- A positive attitude, creativity and flexibility; ability to tolerate ambiguity and manage change.
- Experience working with Boards of Directors, committees and community volunteers.
- A genuine commitment to our mission and values, and a passion for the work of Make-A-Wish®.
- Must be self-motivated and driven.
- Position requires some travel throughout the chapter and flexible hours.
