PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Director of Donor Engagement works closely with the Vice President of Development and other members of the Development/Revenue Team to secure funds needed to advance the mission of Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. The Director is responsible for growing annual revenue generated from individual donors and managing systems for donor outreach and stewardship. This role stewards and cultivates a portfolio of donors giving up to $7,500.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Individual and Annual Donor Program
- Manages portfolio of individual, annual donors who make regular contributions outside of chapter fundraising events
- Plan and execute successful strategies to identify, qualify, solicit, steward, and cultivate donors that meeting the individual/annual donor criteria
- Manage and grow an active portfolio of 100-125 individual donors giving between $500-$7,500 annually
- Develop and execute successful cultivation and stewardship activities for monthly recurring donors, and lead strategic efforts to increase the number of monthly donors and totally monthly donor revenue
- Collaborate with Development and Marketing/Communications teams to execute the annual Season of Wishes holiday direct mail campaign. Responsibilities include donor segmentation, crafting solicitation verbiage, theming, etc.
- Utilize wealth screening tools (Wealth Engine, iWave) to identify prospects with high giving potential and make connections to senior Development staff
- Work closely with other team to cross-cultivate donors and promote the many ways individuals can support the chapter (cash, in-kind giving, volunteerism, etc)
WISH Society
- Staff lead for the Charlotte market WISH (We Inspire Strength and Hope) giving society
- Responsible for the recruitment of new society members and stewardship and cultivation of existing members
- Nominate and annual Society Chair to grow membership and increase revenue
- Partner with staff lead in the Triad market to coordinate regional WISH Society recruitment and social events
- Utilize WISH Society as a prospecting tool to convert new donors to long-term Make-A-Wish supporters
Corporate/Event Fundraising Support
- Works with Team to strategize on key corporate sponsor prospects generated from individual donors
- Execute stewardship activities of assigned donors from corporate/event fundraising campaigns
- Works with Development Team to attend and support signature events as needed
General
- At least 50% of Director’s time should be spent having calls/meetings with donors in person or via a virtual platform (Zoom, Teams, etc)
- Provide positive and professional representation on behalf of the chapter
- Prepare expense and revenue projections for VP of Development to help monitor financial results on a monthly basis
- Foster a culture of cooperation and collaboration among Development team
- Strategize on new, innovative fundraising strategies in the Individual/Annual giving space
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, especially in mid-level/annual giving with a proven track record of success, or a relevant combination of industry-specific education and experience (sales, vendor solicitation, etc).
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Willingness to adopt different communication styles for different donor segments
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards in management, governance, and fund development
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to inspire and connect donors to our mission
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make rapid decisions regarding management and development issues
- Knowledge of and experience with effective database management systems such as SalesForce
- Strong fiscal knowledge and data analysis ability
- A positive attitude, creativity and flexibility; ability to tolerate ambiguity and manage change
- Experience working with Boards of Directors, committees and community volunteers.

- Position requires some travel throughout the chapter territory and flexible hours
