Summary

The Community Development Specialist is responsible for working with the Community Development Director and Sr. Director of Development in the strategic development and implementation of fundraising strategies around local Youth and Collegiate fundraising initiatives and community based external events. The Specialist will develop new and grow existing relationships with local K-12 schools, Universities, and community members to grow revenue and raise awareness. This position will report to the Sr. Director of Development and serve as a member of the Corporate and Events Fundraising team.  This position will contribute to the delivery of meaningful and impactful community stewardship that garners positive PR and brand awareness, fosters strong community relations, increases revenue and donor loyalty, and introduces new supporters to our mission. In addition to managing revenue lines, this position will also be responsible for the recruitment and day of management of event volunteers for our major signature events.

The Specialist must be able to demonstrate internal team leadership while employing an entrepreneurial, collaborative and results-oriented approach to lead and drive new partnerships and upgrade existing ones. With a strong focus on execution as well as innovation, this position is responsible for ensuring successful growth in their relevant lines of business.

This job requires a dynamic, motivated, energetic, and personable individual with a go-getter attitude and a drive to exceed budgetary fundraising AND non-revenue goals as a team, while maximizing ROI.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in the development and leads the execution of growth plans around chapter Youth Fundraising initiatives:
    • Kids for Wish Kids (K-12 school fundraisers)
      • Manage a portfolio of existing school supporters
      • Add new active school fundraisers annually across the 51 counties of chapter territory
      • Deliver annual, measurable revenue and engagement growth
    • Wish Makers on Campus (collegiate campus fundraisers)
      • Manage a portfolio of existing collegiate supporters, clubs, and Division II athletes
      • Prospect for new revenue opportunities in both existing and new partners
      • Deliver annual, measurable revenue and engagement growth
    • Youth Leadership Council
      • Manage the annual Youth Leadership Council (YLC)
      • Guide YLC leaders in their annual fundraising initiative
      • Lead monthly meetings and maintain up to date, engaging communication with all student members
      • Recruit new members to the YLC annually
    • Chi-Omega Fraternities
      • Manage the Chi-Omega chapter philanthropy efforts at all university locations in territory (Appalachian State, Wingate, Queens, UNC Greensboro, UNC Charlotte, Wake Forest)
      • Host bi-annual Chi-Omega summit to encourage chapter collaboration.
      • Foster annual revenue growth at each chapter location
  • Assist in the development and lead execution of growth plans around community based external events.
  • Manage annual external event partnerships (community golf tournaments, 5k races, benefit concerts etc.) and consistently prospect for new leads.
  • Support Community Development Director with preparation and event weekend execution for three annual Trailblaze Challenge hike initiatives.
  • Partner with Community Development Director on the planning and execution of World Wish Day including the engagement of wish families, donors, local partners, and event day deliverables.
  • Manage the recruitment, cultivation, and day of management of all event volunteers for internal chapter events including Wish Ball, Pitchin’ for Wishes Cornhole Tournaments, and Kentucky Derby Classic gala.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
  • An understanding of charitable giving legal guidelines, specifically as it relates to fundraising events.
  • Prior donor and event management experience and strong leadership skills. 
  • The flexibility to occasionally work early mornings, late evenings and occasional weekends, as well as travel throughout out 51 counties due to the nature of our territory coverage.
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills: the ability to work effectively with donors, volunteers, and staff; display superior judgment and diplomatic skills; excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Enthusiasm, commitment to excellence, self-motivation, a professional demeanor, is highly organized and detail oriented.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks with organization and accuracy.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented attitude, and a willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), internet research and strong knowledge of social media.
  • Experience working with databases and Sales Force is preferred.
Education & Experience

-Bachelor’s Degree. 

-1-3 years’ experience in managing events, fundraising activities, or sales.

-Previous non-profit experience is desirable

-Must be able to lift or carry a minimum of 30 pounds

-Valid driver's license and access to consistent, reliable transportation
