Volunteer Spotlight: LeAnne L.

What ways are you involved as a volunteer?
I am a wish granter. I've also participated in Walk For Wishes and volunteered for virtual office shifts to help with administrative tasks.

How did you first find Make-A-Wish?
I had heard about Make-A-Wish in the media and I quite honestly always thought of it as something that would be great to be a part of, but also thought unattainable for myself living in a small town in southern Minnesota with no experience. Then it was advertised as coming to my place of employment for anyone interested in being a volunteer with training provided on site. I didn’t even think twice about it – I immediately signed up! I have always had the mentality that a person should have a few bucket list things and work to accomplish those just for the fun of it. Make-A-Wish fit right in with my thinking, and I would be a part of helping to make someone else’s dream come true – which is even better!

How long have you been volunteering with Make-A-Wish?
I became a volunteer in March of 2017.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of volunteering with Make-A-Wish?
Putting a smile on a child and family’s face and knowing that I was a part of creating a lasting memory for them.

What advice would you give to new volunteers?
Don’t be shy and just jump right in. There are many wish kids just waiting for someone to sign up and help make their wish come true. You are making an impact on their life.

What story would you share to inspire others to become a volunteer with Make-A-Wish?
I don’t think there is just one story, there are so many stories! Each wish child brings a new experience and a new learning for myself. Being a volunteer really takes minimal effort but the rewards and impact are huge.
