Volunteer Spotlight: Kim S.

What ways are you involved as a volunteer?
I am mainly a wish granter, but this year I’m also the wish boost lead. I love coming up with enhancements and customizing them for the season or the wish child! I am also now part of the Speaker’s Bureau and recently participated in my first event speaking and representing Make-A-Wish Minnesota.

How long have you been volunteering with Make-A-Wish Minnesota?
I’ve been a volunteer for over 15 years! 

What has been the most rewarding aspect of volunteering with Make-A-Wish?
This one is easy - bringing joy to wish kids! I have had amazing experiences involving incredible wish kids and I still receive updates from them years after their wish is over!  

What advice would you give to new volunteers?
Have fun, be creative, use your network and find unexpected ways to bring joy! 

What story would you share to inspire others to become a volunteer with Make-A-Wish?
I once had a wish mom who called to say “THANK YOU!” through tears because their family heard their non-verbal daughter laugh for the first time in years because of the wish she’d been granted. It was amazing!
