Volunteer Spotlight: Audrey A.

Audrey Headshot

What ways are you involved as a volunteer?
I am a wish granter.

How did you first find Make-A-Wish?
I first found Make-A-Wish when a family friend of mine was granted a wish to go to a Timberwolves game. Then, in college, I was the Special Projects Intern at Make-A-Wish North Dakota.

How long have you been volunteering with Make-A-Wish Minnesota?
I have been a wish granter since January 2021.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of volunteering with Make-A-Wish?
Out of the kids I’m working with currently, none of their wishes have been granted yet, but I have really enjoyed getting to know them on the discovery calls and absolutely love seeing the joy in their faces when they tell us about their wishes, hobbies and favorites. I also love getting pictures of the wish kids receiving their wish boosts in the mail.

What advice would you give to new volunteers?
I would still consider myself a “new volunteer,” but I’d recommend 1) having an experienced wish granter partner with you on your first wish so you can ask questions and learn along the way and 2) jumping right in - I signed up for a few wishes since I had the time and I’ve really been enjoying the process and getting to meet these amazing kids and their families.

What story would you share to inspire others to become a volunteer with Make-A-Wish?
What’s better than seeing kids with huge smiles on their faces and knowing that you’re playing a small role in that? By becoming a volunteer with Make-A-Wish, you’re signing up to help these amazing kids have the best time of their lives!
