What is your position and how long have you been working for Make-A-Wish Minnesota?

I am the Marketing Coordinator, and I have been working for Make-A-Wish Minnesota since September of 2024.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working for Make-A-Wish?

In my role in particular, I get to share our Wish Kids’ stories through various channels and platforms, and I love getting to dive into each wish, hear their stories, engage with the family, and feel as though I was a part of experience the wish myself. I think it is important to share stories of the Wish Kids’ experiences to highlight the strength, courage, and resilience of each kid. Their wish is an opportunity for them to be a kid again and have a light in the midst of dark times in their lives. I also love that future wish kids can hear about or read stories and get inspired for their wish!

What is one of your favorite wish experiences?

My favorite wish experience was our Wish Kid Za’Nari who wished to be a superhero for a day. I was able to be at the Mall of America for her grand entrance and cheer her on. She strutted into the song “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys and spent the day saving the Mall of America from various mayhem, including her wish granter’s kidnapping. We later filmed a video recapping her wish and I spent the morning playing hide and seek and giving piggyback rides up and down the hallway to Za’Nari and her little brother.

Are there any personal fun facts you would like to share?

I pole vaulted all throughout high school and college and was a pole vault coach for local high schoolers! I also love animals and have fostered several cats.

What advice (if any) would you give to new volunteers?

Get creative and enjoy the entirety of the wish process. Also, know that you are making a big difference in the lives of the wish kids and their families!
