Kayleigh receives baking items on her wish day

Kayleigh's wish gives her the freedom to be herself

Kayleigh describes her nervous system disorder as a rollercoaster between testing new medications, having seizures, ambulance rides and extensive hospital stays.

Due to Kayleigh’s illness, she can’t do some of the things that other 16-year-olds can like pool parties, driving and staying out lateAlthough she may not be able to do certain activities there are many she can do, like baking! She enjoys baking because it allows her to “share a pick me up with others, let them know that they matter and that they are thought of and important.” Kayleigh wants to use her story to help encourage others and give them hope.

“My wish meant everything to me. Being in the kitchen is my happy place. It makes me feel relaxed, focused, independent and gives me freedom to be me! A wish changes a kid’s life.”

Kayleigh's love of baking has grown during her time at home during the pandemic. She loves to create treats for her family, friends and neighbors. One day she hopes to turn baking into a career and open her own bakery.

Her wish for baking supplies came true and included a chance to virtually meet Duff Goldman from Food Network’s Aces of Cakes television show. The two had a memorable experience baking together and shared many laughs along the way. The Willmar Emergency Medical Services community came out in full support to deliver baking supplies for her wish day.
