Cora's Wish

Wish kid Cora
Watch Cora's music video.

When you first meet Cora, it is clear she is a sweet little girl who loves life, her family, and dreams of being a star. She loves to get dressed up, pose for her paparazzi dolls, and entertain her loved ones with her singing and dancing.

What you don’t know about Cora, is that she was born with a genetic disorder. Blind and deaf, she couldn’t speak until she was four and has struggled to learn to walk and eat without her feeding tube. Cora has endured multiple surgeries and months of hospital stays.

“We won’t sugarcoat it, our lives are much more complicated because of Cora,” said her mom, Hollie. “However, when you see Cora and the joy she brings everywhere she goes despite her difficulties, she is a beacon of light and hope.”

Cora’s parents had heard of Make-A-Wish but they never thought a wish was in the realm of possibilities for Cora. Through their network of supporters, they learned that wishes are not just for children with a terminal illness. Wishes are available to bring joy to families just like theirs.

Cora wished to star in her own music video. Through three special events, we all watched as Cora’s excitement grew. First, she recorded the music, then videotaped her performance, and finally held a “video release party” at her home. At her party, Cora walked a red carpet, dressed to the nines and in full make-up! “I’m famous!” Cora declared. Of course, we agreed!

At Make-A-Wish, our mission is to ensure every child feels seen, loved, and celebrated, despite having a medically complex life ahead. For many families, life-long conditions can lead to social isolation or the uncomfortable feeling of not fitting in. Cora’s wish proved to her, and her family, that she is more than her diagnosis. She is loved by all who know her. She is a star!
