Carrington’s wish keeps her connected

Carrington’s journey has not been easy. She was first diagnosed with cancer at just two and a half years old after her family found a lump on her abdomen.

Her grandmother Willa explained, “They were telling us she wouldn’t live six months.” Despite this, her family searched until they found the right doctor and treatment plan to fight the illness.

Carrington also lost her mother to cancer and her family has experienced other illnesses and setbacks. In 2018, they moved from Michigan to Minnesota to be closer to their extended family for support. Now 13 years old, Carrington defies expectations and continues to show strength and resilience as she deals with cancer again.

Carrington finds joy in schoolwork, creating art, gaming and making friends in her new home state. As she and her family were dealing with the new challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Carrington was surprised when a drone from Make-A-Wish Minnesota volunteers arrived with a special message. Her wish to have an electronics shopping spree was coming true!

I want to thank everyone that has helped us at Make-A-Wish. Thank you!
Willa,
Carrington’s Grandmother

In August, with everything carefully planned by the team at Make-A-Wish Minnesota, Carrington and her family were chauffeured in a limo to Best Buy where a personal shopper gave her the star treatment. As part of her wish, she selected a gaming computer and headset, a Nintendo Switch and a printer. After the shopping spree, her celebration continued at Culver’s in Eagan where staff hosted a special lunch for Carrington, her family and her best friend Lucy.

Willa said, “The wish Carrington received is a blessing. Now she has a laptop that she uses every day and games she’s very happy with. She can communicate and keep up with friends and family.” To add to the fun, Carrington uses her new electronics gear to work with Lucy on their art business. Together, they paint dog portraits on rocks.

Thank you to Best Buy, Culver’s and all our volunteers and the supporters who made Carrington’s wish extra special.
