Imagine walking into an airline hangar in December and being instantly filled with the spirit of the holidays and community. That’s just what the Delta Air Lines team in Boston makes happen through their “Holiday in the Hangar” party.

For over 10 years, this beloved tradition has provided a winter wonderland for wish recipients and their families to enjoy, from meeting pilots, to arts and crafts, bounce houses, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus complete with a gift. “To see the look of wonder the kids have when they see a Delta jet parked inside and realize it’s theirs to explore, it’s like nothing else,” says Jeff Hollar, Manager, Boston Logistics for Delta. “We’re helping wish families have a day of fun and friendship with us.”

Over 100 Delta employees volunteer every year to help plan and host the event, from customer service agents to pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, and more, along with children of these employees. Jeff shares, “Employees mark their calendars a year in advance for the party. This partnership is just as exciting for us to host as it is for the wish families to experience.” The Delta team’s impeccable attention to detail provides a creative, safe, and comfortable experience for all wish families. For many wish children, it’s their first time on an aircraft.

What’s more, Delta goes above and beyond all year long, providing VIP attention to wish families traveling for their wishes, including assisting with check-in and security, providing access to Sky Club amenities before the flight, and ensuring luggage and medical equipment are handled safely.

“The entire Boston Delta family feels like Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island is part of our extended family,” reflects Jeff. “Our organizations are both about connecting people and about empathy, and the Make-A-Wish team’s dedication to making a difference is palpable. Their level of care and their commitment to excellence parallels Delta’s own, and this partnership brings so much joy to all of us at Delta.”
