Caleb's Wish to have a Shopping Spree
12-year-old Caleb is a very sweet child with a big heart. He has two older sisters and one younger brother who he always looks out for. Since Caleb was ten, he has played the bass guitar with his church. His parents love that Caleb is passionate about playing music even though they aren’t musically inclined.
When Caleb was diagnosed with cancer, it was hard news for his family, but Caleb had faith that he would get better. He did three months of chemotherapy where he was hospitalized. During that time, he asked his family to bring his bass guitar to the hospital. He played to keep himself entertained and the other kids at the hospital liked to hear him play. After his treatment, Caleb was declared cancer-free.
Before Make-A-Wish had contacted his family, Caleb asked his parents for an expensive bass guitar, and unfortunately, they couldn’t afford it at that time. Later, a social worker let Caleb know about Make-A-Wish and his first thought was to get an instrument. The more he thought about it, he decided to wish for a shopping spree!
His Wish Day started with a limo pick up with his volunteers. He didn’t know what to expect but he was so excited. The limo driver showed him around and explained what all the buttons did, and he was in awe since it was the first time he had ever been inside of a limo. The first stop was to get instruments! After much research, he decided to get a less expensive bass guitar so he could also buy a regular guitar. This way he could play with his younger brother, and he had a buddy to practice with. They then continued his shopping spree with picking up new shoes and clothes. The whole day was such fun for Caleb and his family.
Caleb’s mom describes the experience as marvelous, and they are very grateful. She was able to see the joy in his face and says that Caleb is in love with his new bass guitar. He comes home from school every day to practice on his bass guitar with his brother. Caleb is also still playing in his church band and plans to keep playing for a long time.
