Rob and Nancy Northrip, Long Grove

Make-A-Wish Illinois announces Rob and Nancy Northrip of Long Grove as the recipients of the 2022 Volunteer Fundraiser, Community Events Award for excellence in volunteerism in the area of fundraising to support Make-A-Wish.

For 22 years, Rob and Nancy Northrip have championed Make-A-Wish through their business Ultimate Gymnastics in Gurnee with an event called the Wish Classic that they originally hosted in their gym. The event, a USA Gymnastics sanctioned event, has now grown to feature 1,000 athletes from 30 clubs, raising more than $1,000,000 to support Make-A-Wish.

Rob and Nancy are long-time community event organizers, personal contributors and have volunteered to help make a wish come true. It was true highlight when they were able to enlist their staff and athletes in granting a wish several years ago. At the 2021 Wish Classic, they ran into that wish child and were so thrilled to learn that she was there to compete in the event.

Even through the hardships of the pandemic, they were able to host another wonderful and safe competition that raised for $50,000 for Make-A-Wish Illinois.

“The awareness they bring to the mission is incredible, and their continuous support is so appreciated,” said Ashley White, gift officer with Make-A-Wish Illinois.

“We have met many wonderful families and special children through the years,” the Northrip’s shared. “We've laughed with their triumphs and applauded their courage. It's a humbling experience to be in the presence of such wonderful people.”
