Messiah's Seattle Wish
A kind-hearted, hopeful child, despite the challenges life has thrown his way, Messiah was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at a young age. This has meant countless hospital visits, treatments, and long nights spent wondering what tomorrow would bring. Despite the challenges, he is always thinking of others and trying to bring joy into the lives of those around him.
When the Make-A-Wish became part of his journey, it felt like a dream come true. Messiah’s mom Amanda recalls, “It was such a blessing. Watching him get excited over something—it was priceless.”
After some thoughtful consideration, Messiah knew exactly what he wanted for his wish. He has always been drawn to the world of anime and has a deep love for exploring new things. So, when he heard that his wish could come true, he chose a trip to Seattle, the nexus of the American anime scene. There, he would get to experience the sights and sounds of the city, visit anime stores, and see some of the landmarks that have always intrigued him.
Visiting the Space Needle was a highlight for Messiah. “He was so nervous, but once we got up there and he saw the view, his face just lit up,” his mom shared. “To see Messiah’s joy in such a moment of wonder made the whole trip feel like a dream.”
Their stay at the hotel added another layer of warmth to the experience. The holiday decorations were in full swing, with a massive Christmas tree and festive ornaments creating a cozy atmosphere. “It was like stepping into a winter wonderland,” his mom said. The added magic of the season, so close to Christmas, gave their trip the added boost of holiday joy.
Messiah’s personal highlight came when he was able to visit a particular anime store he had always wanted to see. “He was so excited but a little nervous, too,” his mom said. “He’s a quiet, thoughtful boy, so this was a big moment for him. He really came alive in that store.” From the anime figurines to the posters and memorabilia, it was everything he had imagined—and more. His mom recalled, “Messiah was so happy to be surrounded by things that he loved. He was smiling, even laughing—it was one of those moments you wish you could freeze in time.”
Another unexpected but cherished memory was when Messiah discovered a samurai sword in a local restaurant. It was a small, unique detail, but it meant the world to him. “He’s always had an interest in Japanese culture,” his mom shared, “so seeing that sword in person was a huge thrill for him. It was a small thing, but it made his trip feel even more personal.”
The trip gave Messiah something to hold onto, a reminder that good things could happen even in the toughest of times. As the days went on, Amanda saw a shift in her son.
“I saw him become even more hopeful, more positive,” she said. “Battling his health issues all his life has been tough, but seeing him so excited, so grateful—it was like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.” His mom added, “He’s always wanted to help others, even while going through his own struggles. I think that’s why he was so thankful for the trip. Someone cared enough to make his dream come true.”
Looking back now, Messiah’s family feels an overwhelming sense of gratitude. “It was everything to see him so happy, so carefree,” his mom said. “To see him forget about his medical issues for just a little while and enjoy life—it meant the world.”
Messiah’s wish didn’t just grant him an incredible experience; it gave him a new sense of hope, something to hold on to as he continued his journey.
“Make-A-Wish did something incredible for us,” his mom shared. “It’s not just about the places you visit, the things you do. It’s about seeing your child happy and knowing that someone cares enough to make their dreams come true. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”
