Conner Sarver, Carlinville
What began as a way to honor a friend now helps grant wishes for Illinois children with critical illnesses. Conner Sarver’s friend Spencer loved everything about custom trucks – the power, the sounds, the camaraderie of those that have the same passion. After Spencer passed away, Conner worked with friends and family to create a gathering that honors Spencer, brings the community together and supports an important cause.
Conner is the founder of Spencers Annual Showdown, a non-profit fundraising event showcasing trucks held in southern Illinois. Since 2025, Conner and his organization have donated $12,000 to Make-A-Wish Illinois, and the 2026 Spencer’s Annual Showdown supporting Make-A-Wish Illinois is scheduled for October 16-17, 2026.
With a personal connection to Make-A-Wish, Conner found that working with the organization was simple and welcoming.
His favorite part of putting together this important event is getting to do something he loves, while helping others at the same time. “I have seen that I can put to use something I am passionate about, and in return be able to create joy for so many great and supportive people,” shared Conner.
In addition to combining his personal passions with giving back, working with Make-A-Wish has also shown Conner the true importance of community when in times of need. “Nothing is better than a strong community. Communities need to show the kids as well as the families that they are not in the fight alone.”
Conner encourages others to get involved with Make-A-Wish and join the efforts to help others. “Make-A-Wish shows a welcoming spirit, and a strong community that has made a large impact around the world. I believe everyone should join and help in all different ways, they will see how powerful of a change just one person can make.”
Helping wish kids while honoring his dear friend brings Conner great personal satisfaction. The deep community connections he continues to make through these efforts are treasured and energizing.
“I’m so happy to be a part of something that can carry [Spencer’s] love and passion for years to come.”
Spencer’s Annual Showdown takes place October 16-17, 2026 in Litchfield, Illinois.
