Braxton's Baseball Dream

Raised in a family of Cardinals fans in southern Illinois, Braxton was introduced to baseball at just four years old. “He’s a baseball fanatic,” says Danielle, Braxton’s mom. “[Becoming a] Dodgers fan came from him on his own.” During elementary school, Braxton chose to do a book report on an LA Dodgers player, and from that moment on, his allegiance was sealed.

Though diagnosed with a chronic kidney condition before he was born, after he turned 11, his kidney function began to decline more rapidly, and his medical team started discussing the possibility of the transplant.

As he awaited his kidney transplant, Braxton learned about Make-A-Wish. Without hesitation, he shared his wish to meet the LA Dodgers. It was a challenging time for Braxton health-wise, as his kidney transplant brought some unexpected complexities. But the prospect of his wish filled him with a much-needed sense of hope and joy during this uncertain time.

About a week before the trip, Braxton received a surprise in the mail: a note from the Dodgers, a signed baseball to confirm that his wish was coming true. After that, he and his parents packed their bags and headed out to sunny California.

While in Los Angeles, Braxton got to meet some of his favorite Dodger players, tour Dodger Stadium, and attend a game against the Los Angeles Angels. He even got to meet with the Dodger's business manager who signed to the team as a "Dodger For A Day."

Danielle describes the experience as "hard to put into words.” She and Braxton’s dad watched from the sidelines while their son lived out his dream.

“[We stood] in the background and got to watch him do his thing… Even now, he still talks about it."
