What My Wish Meant by Kenzie

In October of 2014, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma when I was just 17 years old.

I was working out, eating healthy and had never broken a bone. My friend at the time had walking pneumonia, so we thought that is what it had to be. Fast forward to a few day later, I heard the words, "you have cancer." My life flipped upside down in not just minutes but seconds.

I spent three months in and out of the hospital missing my senior year of high school. I was missing the Friday night football games, sleepovers with my girlfriends and being a teenager. There were times that I was really struggling, not just physically but mentally. When I found out I was approved for a wish through Make-A-Wish®, I knew there were brighter days ahead.

My dream wish since I was a little girl was to go on a shopping spree and it came true with the help of Make-A-Wish. I received my wish in July 2015 right before I went to college and was beyond thankful for the amazing experience. From being picked up in a limo, to shopping all day, lunch at Ling and Louie's and being surprised with a MacBook Pro, it was perfect!

On my shopping spree, I picked out different items for my college dorm room. If I did not receive this wish, my college experience would have been way different. I would have had to work extra to afford everything Make-A-Wish provided me but I was fortunate I could focus on my studies.

To this day, I still have everything I picked out during my shopping spree, and I'm beyond thankful for my experience with Make-A-Wish.
