Elijah was overwhelmed when he found out that he was getting a wish. He could choose to go just about anywhere or to do just about anything. It was a lot, and he worried that he might somehow waste his wish.

His parents, Sven and Fanny, told Elijah that the wish was a celebration of him, the health struggle he endured and his life ahead, and that he should pick whatever his heart desired most, and no matter what, the wish would not be wasted.

He went to his room and thought about what would make him the happiest, and after some soul-searching, he told his parents that he wanted a skateboard and gear.

Elijah had spent a couple years in the hospital battling cancer and although he finally beat it, he lost a lung in the process. His parents were a little worried that skateboarding might send him back to the hospital, but they were thrilled that Elijah chose the thing he wanted most in the world.

"The wish filled me with joy and made me hopeful," Elijah said.

The entire community celebrated Elijah's wish on World Wish Day. His friends gathered for a skateboard party in the park. Local skateboarders did tricks and stunts for the kids, and Elijah received pointers from his brand-new skateboard instructor who will ensure Elijah learns all the best moves while staying safe.
