Looking Toward the Future
Garrett is a bright and thoughtful young man who loves spending time with friends and exploring his passions, from cooking to reading to playing games. Despite facing lymphoma as a teenager, he remains full of optimism and determination. His story is one of strength, courage, and the power of wishes — wishes that came true or will come true in ways that will bring even more joy to his life.
Garrett’s positive attitude and incredible outlook through his struggles have been a guiding light for his family, helping them navigate through even the darkest of times. Despite the mass in his chest and the many rounds of chemotherapy treatments he has endured, Garrett faced each day with strength and a smile. Even on the toughest days, such as intense doctor visits which have always been a big fear of his, he remained focused on the positive, reminding his family that there is always hope. He now looks forward to college and hopes to offer help to those going through treatment like his own.
This incredible experience with Make-A-Wish® Idaho has given Garrett a sense of hope and something to look forward to during a challenging time. His cancer was severe, but despite this, his wish to go to Disney World filled him with anticipation and excitement.
Undergoing cancer treatments increased his empathy and understanding of what others facing similar struggles were also going through. His own medical journey sparked a newfound passion for radiology, and he dreams of pursuing it as a profession. Garrett hopes to use his experience and the knowledge he’s gained to make a difference in the lives of those who are battling illnesses and provide care like he received which has made such an important impact on him.
During his wish trip to Disney World, Garrett turned 18. The highlight of his wish was getting to make his own lightsaber as he is a tried-and-true Star Wars fan. He got to experience Hollywood Studios, where he saw various stormtroopers and went on rides that included real scenes from the Star Wars movies. He also visited Universal Studios and stayed at Give Kids the World Resort. He had been looking forward to visiting all these parks and places during the years he was undergoing cancer treatments.
This trip was one that Garrett and his family will never forget. Getting to skip to the front of the lines, go on fun adventures in each of the different parks, and picking out special souvenirs to remember his experiences by were some of the best parts of the wish.
“A big thank you to Make-A-Wish Idaho and everyone who has been through it with us for the past two years! Garrett has been looking forward to this wish as a chance to get away from everything” Garrett’s mom, Rachelle, said Garrett’s story is a powerful reminder that with hope, strength, and the support of loved ones, anything is possible — even in the face of the toughest challenges.
