The canola fields that surround Lane's house bloom bright-yellow ...
..and sway vigorously in the stiff winds that sweep through the sun-dappled valley; the snow-capped Boise mountains loom majestically in the distance. Surrounded by such natural splendor, Lane longed to spend more time playing outdoors.
However, Lane's neurological disorder has confined him to a wheelchair, and concrete is sparse in rural areas. Piloting his chair through slick, soggy mud is both messy and irritating. Lane wished to have a more accessible backyard, so he could visit his pet ducks, the nearby goat pen and enjoy the magnificent views that surround his country home without hassle.
Make-A-Wish® Idaho teamed with the ESI Cares Foundation and the Home Depot and went to work building Lane's wish yard, installing a ramp for the house, a paved lane that stretches out to the animal pens and the fire pit, as well as furnishing a wooden roof for the back patio to keep Lane safe and shaded during the hot summer months.
Lane had an ice cream party with his grandparents to celebrate the completion of his wish. He's been up and down the new pathway a dozen times and just loves his new accessible home on the range!
Help us grant wishes like Lane's.
