Liam endured hundreds of needle pokes, blood draws, and clinical appointments all to keep him healthy enough to undergo a bone marrow transplant.
He spent 46 days in the hospital and 100 days in Salt Lake City before he could return home to Idaho. The good news is that Liam’s health has improved since the transplant, and his life is beginning to return to normal.
“I have been in awe of Liam’s attitude through this life-altering medical experience. He just accepted the news and continued to persevere with the attitude of a champion. He became interested in his own treatment and impressed all his doctors and nurses with his humor and positive attitude towards his treatment and although he knew it would be a lengthy recovery, he dealt with it like it was an ordinary day,” said his mom, Deana
Liam loves the outdoors, being outside, camping, and fishing, especially catching crawdads. He finds being in nature peaceful and dreams about living in a small home in the woods one day. Liam took his love for the outdoors and channeled it into his wish to go to Hawaii. He was most excited to do outdoorsy stuff in Hawaii and earmarked para-sailing and zip-lining as his top two activity choices. He para-sailed in a giant, yellow parachute with a happy face on it and zip-lined through the air while looking down on the dense, green foliage.
The fun didn't stop there. Deana said that, "we were even able to do cage-diving with sharks, paddle boarding at the hotel lagoon, snorkeling, fireworks... just so much in addition to the zipline and para-sailing experiences. We are so grateful for this experience, and both my husband and I felt like this was the bookend to almost 700 days of medical treatment and recovery."
