REPORTS TO: Chief Development Officer
We are seeking an innovative, highly motivated, organized, and collaborative Content Manager to join our Communications team. This position works across all departments to help build brand awareness and supports fundraising, community engagement, wish granting and medical outreach activities. This person will be responsible for creating engaging and brand-focused content to increase revenue through storytelling. As an essential member of the Communications Team, they will manage the editorial calendar and deliverables from brainstorming through creation. He/she is a strategic thinker with excellent writing skills and is able to engage audiences and move them to action.
The ideal candidate should have 4+ years of experience in communications, journalism or other content creation and experience with digital marketing and social media analytics. Experience with graphic design is a plus. Preference will be given to on-island applicants and individuals with experience in nonprofits.
PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS
The Content Manager has primary working relationships with the Communications and Development Teams, as well as wish granting staff.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop
- Assist in authoring external communications, including annual reports, press releases, newsletters, wish stories, fundraising appeals, event programs and scripts, acknowledgement letters, and other marketing collateral
- Write, edit, proofread, research and work with key stakeholders to ensure clear, accurate, and compelling communications through stories and videos
- Contribute strategic editorial support and develop targeted outreach to stakeholders, including leadership-, medical-, and volunteer-specific communications
- As required, coordinate, write, review, and update content for various communication channels
- Actively ideate and coordinate with members of the Communications, Development and Program teams to conceptualize and execute a wide variety of creative projects
Manage
- Oversee social media channels and develop a strategic plan for leveraging each platform
- Research social media trends and inform management of relevant changes
- Set key performance indicators (KPIs) for social media campaigns and measure performance
- In collaboration with the Communications, Program and Development teams, plan and execute messaging to support mission awareness and fundraising initiatives
- Build and foster relationships with key stakeholders, including local media, wish families, community leaders, volunteers, donors, vendors, and the National Office
Execute
- Disseminate external communications through multiple media channels (digital, print and broadcast)
- Write copy for chapter-wide special events, campaigns, and promotions
- Actively participate at wishes and events
- Assist in maintaining Make-A-Wish Hawaii’s website
- Serve as a resource for all other communications, including surveys and grants
- Undertake projects, as required, and perform other related job duties, as assigned
The Content Manager primarily works Monday - Friday during normal business hours. He/She should also be available to support special events on evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Impeccable writing, editing, speaking, and listening skills with a keen understanding of how to write for and connect with different audiences, and correspondingly high standards of professionalism in performing all job duties
- Previous experience in a communications or related field, ideally in a non-profit setting
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or a related field
- Evidence demonstrating a successful track record of delivering quality, timely results both as a member of a collaborative team and as an individual
- Evidence demonstrating a high degree of organization, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Evidence demonstrating discretion and good judgment in decision-making
- Experienced with Adobe Suite, social media, email platforms, and Microsoft Office applications
